Summer fun in Baler

The summer sun is out and everyone is trooping to the beach! But instead of the same old routine, it’s time to try out something new! Why not troop to Baler and go surfing? Access to Baler used to be difficult due to a lot of natural obstacles such as the Sierra Madre mountains. And if the rough roads discouraged you from visiting Baler, don’t fret! SEAIR now flies to Baler twice a week.
You can easily find a trainer in Sabang Beach. Just ask the local tourism office or your hotel for their surfing packages. But there’s so much more to do in Baler. Secluded beaches are just a boat-ride away. Check out Dikasalarin Beach. From the Baler Fishing Port, which is about nine kilometers from the poblacion, it’s a 45-minute pump boat ride to Dikasalarin Cove. On the way, you’ll be afforded stunning views of wave-battered rock formations and islets, lush forests and majestic cliffs that form the spectacular Baler coastline. From the boat, try looking for Digisit Falls and the PAGASA Relay Station high up on a hill.
Also check out the historical sites in the center of town. The Baler Church is a historically significant place that has become a rallying point for Philippine friendship with Spain. It had been the site of the last stand of Spanish forces in the country. As the Siege of the Church of Baler marker mentions, a Spanish garrison of four officers and fifty men was besieged in the church by Filipino forces from June 27, 1898 to June 2, 1899. They had refused demands for surrender for nearly a year and only did so when an emissary of General Rios dropped a newspaper from Manila inside the court of the church to let them know that for many months the Spanish flag was no longer waving in Luzon except that of Baler Church.
In front of the church stands the Aragon House, the birthplace of Doña Aurora Aragon Quezon, wife of President Manuel L. Quezon. It’s not the bahay na bato type but the small wooden ones that you would expect from a remote fishing town. If travel is difficult today, imagine how it was then. Did you know that Doña Aurora and President Quezon were first cousins since their Molina mothers were sisters! Also don’t forget that Aurora province was named in her honor. In the park a few meters away is the birthplace of Quezon. Aside from the historical marker and a statue, they erected a replica of the nipa hut of the Quezon family. Also in the park is a museum.
In the next town, San Luis, is Kaunayan (Cunayan) Falls in Brgy. L. Pimentel. Kaunayan is not that high. But the clear water is so enticing for a swim. The water is cool, close to cold in fact, and perfect for the hot summer day. And the water isn’t deep so you could stand directly below the falls with ease. So what are you waiting for? Time to book a flight to Baler! SEAIR flies to Baler twice a week. For inquiries and reservations please call SEAIR at 8490100. (by Ivan Anthony Henares)

A lot of historical things happens in Baler, no doubt… it is one the most opt-to-visit spot in our country. Still dreaming that one day, me and my wife could spend a night or two in this beautiful and quiet place of Quezon. I can’t wait to be out for a while and spend great opportunities that me and my wife could enjoy each of those moment.

I am a beach dude, just look at my skin. Hehehe. I’ve always wanted to go to Baler but I don’t like traveling by bus. Hopefully, when I win in this raffle I can go to the beach and soak in the historical culture as well. For sure, my traveling buddy and I will treasure such an adventure!
April 24th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Ooh Baler! It’s a shame that I haven’t gone to many places due to budget constrictions and just satisfy myself by reading travel blogs. I hope I could visit Baler, I’m sure it’ll be a memorable adventure and I want to get a taste of what it’s like to surf!
April 24th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
i haven’t tried surfing but i think it’s fun because once you ride the wave, the thrill and the rush is incomparable. it’s one of the things in my “bucket list” if i may say. and what better way to do it in a place where foot-high waves dominate the area? =)
April 24th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Baler is the one place i want to visit again as the first time i went there it was to interview the mangyans for a project during my college days. i still remember the ten hour trip to and fro by riding a bus and sum mini vans. we hardly got a good sleep for it but was worth it. it was all worth it as i spend few minutes just looking at its beach. sad to say we didn’t bring extra clothes and we also need to go home asap. god the beach was so breathtaking and that was also the first time i saw people surfing. seeing them riding the waves made me yearn to try it out. it’s as if you’re like flying and gliding with the water.
i just finished my studies in college and until now i don’t know how to spend my vacation. when i saw the picture of baler, i had this sudden urge to try surfing and i know baler’s such a great place. it’s a nice change being away from the city life sometimes :). i wish i could have this ooportunity again

I’ve been hearing that Baler is one great spot for surfers. I even heard it referred as a surfer paradise. I haven’t been there but surely hopes to see what it offers. I want to experience surfing as well. Being on the perfect place like Baler, surfing would be excellent!

I’ve heard so much about Baler and Aurora in general. My uncle loves going to Dingalan to play around with his speed boat. Sadly, I’ve never been to the province. It’s great that SEAir is opening flights to a once hard-to-reach part of Luzon. I’ve always loved the water so I’m sure surfing will be up my alley. I heard marine life is pretty good there as well. My uncle often boasts of how many fish he catches on fishing trips up there.
April 24th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
I want to go somewhere with beautiful beaches which are not crowded and a scenery to die for… Baler fits that description.

I have been to a lot of beaches in my young life, but I’ve never experienced a summer in Baler.
From what I’ve heard, it’s a place of culture and natural wonder. A tropical and historic paradise teeming with undiscovered beauty. And of course, aside from nature, there’s loads of activities to do! So for a chill out spot his summer, sure, I am considering Baler, it’s a lot closer to home. Now, It’s no wonder why people want to join the raffle [aside from the freebies] but people really want to discover what Baler really is.

We’ve been to Baler last year to go surfing, and man it was so much fun! Although the road itself is already adventurous, the place we stayed in is so awesome, plus the waves are great and it’ll give you the stoke you need. I got so stoked that I forgot all my surfing gears (board shorts, shirts and rash guards) at the resort we stayed in. I really hope I can get back there to surf the waves again and to find my lost gears.

April 24th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
On my first summer break from med school, I promised myself I’d do a lot of things I was never able to do before to make the most of the two month reprieve I have. I have long wished for a chance to explore the unspoilt and magnificent places in the country; my first baby step towards fulfilling that dream was to travel to a remote area of Palawan just this month. And I’m wishing for another baby step in the form of a trip to Baler! I’ve heard of wonderful stories about this mysterious far-flung area from family members and die-hard surfers. The promise of being able to look out to the Pacific Ocean for the very first time, with the Sierra Madre mountain just at my back is just tempting. I guess surfers really love the powerful waves here; I hope though, that the water would be kind enough for a first time surfer like myself if I ever get the chance to go there. (Surfing seems like this unattainable ultra-cool thing that mega beach babies and Hollywood hotties can do. But hey, if they can do it, why not me?) My imagination is already working overdrive at the thought of a visit to Baler; hugging surfboard close to my rash guard while walking on Charlie’s Point, munching on a sandwich with homemade peanut butter from the town center, then suddenly seeing and catching a once-in-a-lifetime wave, and riding the water just like a surf champion. The memories (real or imagined) just might be enough to tide me over during the rougher days of another year in med school that starts in June.

i’ve tried surfing in zambales, la union and siargao and it’s loads of fun. i have yet to try baler but i hear it’s really great coz the waves come in directly from the pacific ocean. unlike other destinations you can always expect consistent waves. (so i’ve heard). Baler would be a great place to surf and enjoy our local wonders. before we go out to enjoy the wonders of the world, experience what the Philippines has to offer.
April 24th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
I always wanted to try surfing because it seems to be a safe and fun activity to do in the beach… and it seems cool haha
i love beaches and I think Baler would be a perfect place for people like me who likes fun, adventure, and sight-seeing while not being crowded and polluted by too much people
April 24th, 2008 at 11:34 pm

Baler is one of those hidden treasures of our country waiting to be discovered. It is such an irony because of its proximity to Manila, though the perils of travel and its inaccessibility hinder us from appreciating its beauty. That is why, there is no better way to enjoy this place than now! Thanks to SEAIR!

I don’t know what comment I can leave here that will do justice to the place and to surfing so I’ll instead post a link http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Summer%20Special&p=73&type=2&sec=153&aid=200804231 about my experience.
I went there by taking the bus and had a blast. So what would make me give up getting up early in the morning to take an eight and a half hour butt busting bus ride through treacherous terrain to get to such a nice destination in order to do something gnarly? Well Seair, show me! 8-p
April 25th, 2008 at 8:48 am
I have tried surfing once and it was such an exhilarating experience. One that I would love to try again and again. And I’ve heard that Baler is the place to be for that. Thanks to SEAIR it’s now a whole lot easier and faster to be there and bask in its sand and waves.
April 25th, 2008 at 8:56 am
i’d love to go to baler because it’s one of the hidden treasures of the philippines:)in addition, it’s one of the few places where you can enjoy the sun, sea and surf.
April 25th, 2008 at 9:16 am
I’ve already experienced quite a number of beautiful beaches, but Baler, just like Tagbilaran, is surely a must see! Now that some islands in the Philippines are already accessible by plane, going to Baler will be of no hassles anymore.. and if given the chance to go to Baler & experience surfing first-hand will be an extraordinary & exhilirating way to enjoy my first summer out of school, as a new college graduate! Cheers to SEAIR for a potential great escape!!
April 25th, 2008 at 9:20 am
I love to swim, I love the beach, I love the sea! what more can I say? I have been to Siargao once to try the waves. Next target is Baler.
And if luck is on my side, it’ll be a wish granted. Hopefully in time for my birthday.

April 25th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
My boyfriend and I are both busy working these days. I am trying to look for a new adventure, something that will make us worry/stress FREE.
Ultimate/ unique reasons for joining this:
1. Currently he has learned ICE SKATING and now he says “Surfing, here I come…”, so this promo is very timely
2. Also, part of my plans is to explore provinces in an ALPHABETICAL WAY, just to make it unique.
So hopefully, we can get the chance to experience Baler, Aurora for free.
pls pls…
April 25th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Baler is the oldest municipality of Aurora province, considered the most progressive town in the province of Aurora. Baler is known for historical sites such as the home of former president Manuel L. Quezon and the picturesque Baler Catholic Church. Baler also boasts of scenic landscapes and beaches. The waters of Baler also serve as venue of the Aurora Surfing Cup an annual event where local and foreign surfers compete.
I’ve never been to Baler yet but I got attracted with its historic richness. I love water and surfing is a new leisure sport activity that is not common here.
Let’s see what Baler can offer. I’m curious and very eager to find it out.
April 25th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
For a short break or holiday away with you family or a group of friends and colleagues, surfing in Baler is a great getaway for beach lovers and extremists alike.
The beauty of the beach and the big waves makes a great combination for a travel destination!
April 25th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
i just wanted to check out the new rates only to find out such great offer!:) i am planning a surprise get away trip for my partner… we both love beaches and that is why the BALER AD caught my attention.

April 25th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Choose me! Pick me! Pretty please… I need a breathe of fresh air— away from my intoxicating and stressful life. Baler is the perfect, the sweetest escape!
April 25th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
beach-gazing and swimming is nothing compared to surfing in the waters. surfing is a combination of skill and good waves, in my case as a newbie surfer..it’s also about getting lucky. Baler, being one of the famous points for surf enthusiasts is a must be-in. I’ve been to siargao and la union, surfing wouldn’t be complete without experiencing baler.what greater way to go there and avoid traffic? By seaair of course! =)
April 25th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
I love travel and taking in the culture and history of a place. I don’t know much about Baler and never realized that there’s so much to do there!Surfing is one thing that’s on my “Life List” , and I would love to experience that in Baler. Thanks for this cool article
April 25th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
i’ve gone surfing once with friends in la union and it was totally fun! we’ve been meaning to try it again and hoping to get better in it…
April 26th, 2008 at 6:51 am
I tried surfing once. No matter how hard or how many times I fall down, I kept going on. I am determined to be able to stand on that board even for just one ride. Baler, give me that shot. Let me ride your waves and carry me to shore. SEAIR take me there at once.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Baler, a local paradise that entices the senses and feeds the soul. The rise and fall of the waves mesmerizing its people to come forth. The call of the sea.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Eversince I was young, I always loved being anywhere near the ocean. Surfing is something I’ve been wanting to learn for the longest time but I never got the chance to do so. I can just feel myself breezing through the majestic waves of baler, worry-free and relaxed. Nothing beats the adrenaline rush you get from surfing. Baler would be just the perfect getaway. And what better way to get there but by SEAIR!!!

Been there once, in between trips to la union and daet. Despite the grueling madaling-araw road trip, we (pasaheros) woke up to breathtaking surf. The whole holy weekend was full of good-vibes all around… even with an apparent shark-sighting at charlie’s point (yes, my friends surfed on anyway). Good food, good company, from Good Friday all through Easter Sunday.
minus the road trip, i’d rate baler as a great destination–so bring on them air tickets, and hope you fly me there soon.
April 27th, 2008 at 2:12 am
Since a friend of mine grew up in Baler, he would always talk about how the waves in his hometown is perfect for surfing. He would talk about how liberating riding the high seas and just being stoked like mad for catching big waves. Aside from the fact that Baler is a serene place with very nice people, it’s a great place for adventure just waiting to be discovered (so my friend says).
alas, I never been to Baler. Maybe this just might be the ticket I’ve been waiting for. =)

Honest to goodness great surfing here! I tried surfing once, got freaked out, but went on the board anyway with shaking knees, and whadya know, woot! Boy, do i want to go back on that board again! Food is fantabulous and friends are aplenty! And not to mention, your peso goes a long way:> Who can ask for more?:>

Aurora is a province blessed with an abundance of tourist attractions. It has its share of historical sights such as the home and resthouse of former Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon. The province also has a beautiful Catholic church and several historical markers. Its natural attractions include picturesque waterfalls, lush greenery on mountainsides, and panoramic beaches. Surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, mountain climbing and trekking are only some of the activities a tourist can enjoy in Aurora.
But the most important point about Baler is its the birth place of my wife Marites and to be able to visit her family in their local surroundings would be a dream come true.Good luck to all the other entrants.
Mark from England
ps I will be in the Phils 29 April to 27 May 2008

I recently started surfing….and immediately I’m an addict!Been looking forward to my next surf trip…. and since LaUnion or Zambales is just near, I want to try somewhere else too…. and after watching lots of travel shows featuring Baler and other parts in Aurora, been dying to go there….haven’t been on that side…. hope i’ll win this! cant wait!

Surfing is fun because it lets you enjoy nature and at the same time, it gives you a whole-body exercise. Ever since I learned surfing, I fell in love with the sport. But it is not just a sport, it is also a lifestyle. You become one with nature and you respect the ocean and your surrounding more. After a few surf trips in western Luzon, I told myself that I really have to go to Baler because it is the birthplace of Philippine surfing. I first went there last March, and I instantly fell in love with the place. Baler is simply beautiful not just because of its breathtaking surrounding, friendly people, and the exciting surfing experience that it offers, but also because of its historical and cultural heritage. I went back there last April to surf with my son, and this coming May, I have already made plans of coming back to surf with my friends. I really want to go back to Baler in June with my son on a surfing trip for his birthday, and what better way to go there than getting two free SEAIR tickets.
April 27th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
i have tried surfing in Siargao before and I would love to learn more…
Baler is a good place to visit since I haven’t explored much of Luzon yet.
April 28th, 2008 at 12:43 am
The mere mention of the word Baler is enough to make me feel stoked. No, I haven’t gone surfing in my life. I wish. I had turned down several invites from my friends to go surfing, thanks to juggling graveyard shift, graduate studies and business. But my desire to learn surfing never ceased. I am hoping to explore Baler and learn surfing and, eventually, join my friends in their bimonthly surf trips. Please, please choose me! My DVD player is sick and tired of playing Jack Johnson’s “Thicker Than Water”!
April 28th, 2008 at 2:38 am
I have always been in love with the surfing lifestyle. Winning these tickets for two would be a great gift to one of my Australian friends who’s coming over by late May to surf in the Philippines! Baler is a perfect introduction of surfing in the country.
April 28th, 2008 at 9:24 am
A lot of my friends have been coming from Baler left and right and I’m desperately envious. I’ve been dreaming about surfing ever since I was introduced to the Beach Boys.
And I resolved to myself that this summer would be the summer I dreamed about.
April 28th, 2008 at 10:14 am
First time I heard of the place was in the late 80’s. Miss Castillo was patiently narrating the life of the late President Manuel Quezon and I was trying to envision the place in my mind. I thought coconut trees, jungles, mountains….who knew that you can go surfing in Baler?! I didn’t even know they have a coastline. Talk about the past modernized.
I’ve never been to Baler. I’ve never surfed. I promised myself that 2008 will be a year of firsts…and this is a good way to start
April 28th, 2008 at 11:34 am
I am giving you three reasons why i should win this raffle contest. First, I love sports but I have never tried surfing. So maybe this is the greatest chance for me to learn how to surf and play with the big waves. Second, I am a traveler. I have gone to different places in the Philippines, most particular in various towns of Quezon province - EXCEPT BALER. Third and lastly, I am a blogger. Having experienced Baler first hand will give me the credibility and authority to write about its wonders and tourist spots. Promoting Philippine tourism through my website is always one of my main agenda when I blog.

I am. Tough cookie meets girly girl. Obsessive compulsive meets neat freak. Oldies girl at heart meets artsy designer. Worldly traveler meets beach bum. Dessert junkie meets health buff. Adventure seeker meets miss prim and proper. Moody miss pear meets happy peanut. Baler is too. It doesn’t feel to far off. I am. Baler is.
April 28th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Oh my Gosh!
I didn’t know Aurora and Quezon were first cousins! That was kinda incest…(yeah, back then was it not, ei?)
That’s history right there. And I am looking forward to more history tidbits when I get there.
I think Aurora is one of those peaceful, “virgin”(that’s why Aurora’s a perfect name) and lesser known provinces which you can always sneak away to especially when you’ve been working your ass year-long in a rugged, noisy, polluted and stressful metro.
And it’s nice to know that you can surf as well when you want a sporty escapade.
And by the way, (in case I don’t get to win), how much is it to go to Baler(via SeaAir)?
April 29th, 2008 at 12:19 am
Wow! I would like to visit Baler one of these days, especially since I’ve never been there before. I’ve tried surfing in Zambales before, but would love to try it again in Baler!

I just finished watching “Blue Crush” for the nth time on tv. While watching (and envying) Kate Bosworth, though I’m no poet (I’m not even a writer), perhaps I was in a sentimental mood or whatever (I’m getting defensive here, what I’m about to talk about seems so corny to me), something poetic about the movie struck me. It struck me that surfing could be likened to love..
I mean, look at it. Going out there, waiting for a wave, seeing one, and thinking that it’s the perfect wave, you paddle and ride it, then, suddenly, you wipeout.. you go under then spin round and round, not knowing for a while which way is up.. But eventually, you do, and then claw your way up for air. You take a rest for a while, then get back there and again, wait..
But sometimes, when you wipe out really bad, like what happened to Anne Marie when she hit her head, you get scared. A perfect wave could come, but you just let it pass you by, afraid to wipeout again..
There are also times when you see a wave, and it could have been the perfect one, but you just didn’t paddle hard enough, you didn’t work at it hard enough, so you fail to catch it..
So how do you know that it is the perfect one?
You use your senses. You use your head. You analyze the wave. And then you let your instincts guide you. Something inside of you tells you that this is it, this is the one..
So you wait anxiously.. Then it comes. Paddle, paddle, paddle. You have to work at it so that you can ride it.. So you can experience that adrenaline rush. The excitement. That feeling that you just can’t explain when you’re riding that perfect wave. That perfect wave that takes you safely to shore..
-oOo-
Now as for Baler, since pictures can say a thousand words, I’ll just post a link to some of the more unexplored beauty of Baler that I have been lucky enough to see..

I hope to go back there someday (with the help of SEAIR!) and combine my love for surfing with the beauty of Baler..

what better way to cap off the summer! experiencing the convenience and comfort that is SEAIR, learning a new sport, which is SURFING, taking in the history and culture of AURORA, basking in the sun on a serene, secluded beach, void from worldly things, that is in BALER. it’s luxury, adventure, and relaxation all rolled into one.

I’ve been wanting to go to Baler this summer. I’ve read up on it in travel blogs and I can’t wait to see it for myself. I also want to learn how to surf and it would be so nice if my first wave was caught in Baler.
Just recently, I heard that Seair now has flights to Baler and I’m so excited! I hope to win this thing, but if I don’t I’ll find a way to get there by myself! This is one of the things on my list that I can’t wait to cross out! Pick me please Seair!

I want to go back to Baler! It’s so beautiful and serene out there! The people are nice and friendly. We even saw Wowee De Guzman surfing while we were there. We stayed at a beach resort with the ocean right in front of us and the river at the back. We could hear the crashing of the waves from our room. Whenever i play my the Land of the Loon CD by Solitudes (http://thenaturestore.com/zz3746.htms) I’m transported back to Baler.
Getting there by bus is really a pain in the ___, but it was all well-worth it.
I would go back there in a song!

BALER IS A GREAT PLACE…. GREAT FOOD… GREAT PEOPLE!!!
April 29th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
“So much to try, so little time” — sums up my summer time. =)
While others may opt to bum around and do nothing, I opt to spend my summer exploring places, doing something new, stretching myself, and testing my limits. Seize the day, my parents have told me.
Baler has always been on my must-see travel destination. It’s an all-in-one type of destination, where every type of traveler’s desires — adventure-filled or laid-back, budget or luxury, food trips or nature trips — will surely be satisified.
For those who love adventures (me! me! me!), surfing will definitely give you a natural high! For those into arts and history (mom), there’s the Church, plaza, and old houses to delight upon. Also, hearing a tidbit of gossip about A and Q is a bonus for “historians”! Nature-freaks (dad) can marvel on the secluded beaches, thundering falls, and secret coves. So you see, everybody is happy, LOL.
Hope to win this chance to see Baler for free, and treat my parents this time around. =)

I’ve had the chance to visit Australia where I saw your ’straight out of the movies,’ hot, blue-eyed surfer dudes… but guess I’m so much more interested to see for myself what the Philippines has to offer!
I’m glad that surf’s up in Baler. Time to promote the place and not be a ‘turista sa sariling bayan.’
April 29th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
I want to ride the waves and ehem, “appreciate” the ocean cowboys there
I’ve never been to baler but it looks like a fun quiet gorgeous place to visit this summer!
April 29th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Because it’s exhilarating and new!

HEAR YE, HEAR YE! THERE IS A NEW FOUND SURFING PLACE TO BE!
i heard this good news from my good friend Lorna (i have to say this, tehehe.)
it’s really great to hear that there is now a commercial plane ride to Quezon Province.
i’m a vagabond and my wanderlust is insatiable so is my love for the water/ocean. i havent tried surfing yet. i have been planning for the longest time to go to La Union to finally start learning but going there is TIME CONSUMING. for people like me who are slave to their work (as much as i dont want to), that is Mojo Problem-O. so when i heard of Baler, Surfing and an AIRLINE service…Holy Guacamole!!! my prayer’s been heard! i have yet to conquer Quezon and its neighboring towns because of its geographical location. but that is no longer a problem, thanks to you guys!! i may not be able to win this contest but for me, i still feel like a winner bcoz i can finally go to Quezon in the near future!!!!

I would really love to share this wonderful surf ride with my husband. It was a surprise to know that SEA Air now travels to Baler, which makes it an easy access zone. I am a hands-on and a working mom that is why i do not prefer spending much of my time travelling. what a big break for me and my busy husband to enjoy the wonderful Dikasalarin white beach sand in Luzon, see historic places and breathe refreshing breeze while adoring the views of rock formations and wonderful cliffs near Baler shore.
April 30th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
i would really love to visit Baler especially now that i’m here in Seair. it is just now that i began to appreciate the magic of travelling. I am not much a traveler. in fact, i don’t enjoy traveling since it only makes my head ache. But with this promo that this generous airline is ofering, who am i to complain? see you all in Baler!
April 30th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
why baler? two words (in addition to the mind-blowing narrative provided above): apocalypse now.
yes, filming of the iconic movie was partially done on the ruggedly elegant landscape of baler. i have other words in mind, by the way. marlon brando. the godfather. secluded beaches. surfing paradise. fly seair. (*wink, wink*)
i love the outdoors. i love beaches. i love the thrill of seeking out the histories of the exotic. by virtue of transitivity (or some other long-forgotten postulate), the seduction that is baler easily makes it a foregone conclusion in my mind. think about it: “…stunning views of wave-battered rock formations and islets, lush forests and majestic cliffs that form the spectacular Baler coastline.” haaaayyyy… i’m getting chills just thinking about it. (and on a hot summer day like today, that’s saying something!)
plus–i’ve always wanted to try something new and exciting like surfing. the question was, where? now i see that this is the perfect place to be this scorching summer. “…the water is cool, close to cold in fact, and perfect for the hot summer day…” nakupu, i am sold! i can’t wait to experience the beauty of baler. signed, sealed, delivered–baler, i’m yours!
April 30th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
i am not much of a traveler. i have not been to any place outside region 4 and its nearby regions. Seair will indeed make a lot of difference. Hop in! Seair will take us to each and every paradise.
April 30th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Surfing is definitely a fun and must try this summer time. Although I haven’t surfed or try it at once but it is blatantly cool and enjoyable. And surfing to Baler would be definitely great too. Discovering Baler aside from Siargao… I hope I can surf to Baler with SEAIR.
April 30th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
…….
Surfing is a great way of losing yourself. It’s gonna be you, the board, and the waves; mixed and tossed beneath a hot sunny day!
I’ve been hearing good things about Baler, Aurora especially when it comes to nature tripping and surfing.
Nature’s best pack in one: falls, rivers, Mt. ranges, and not to mention the beach.
It’s been a boredom doing the same thing everyday. It’s time for a little sun, a new experience in an unfamiliar place.
That’s an exciting way to recharge and be ready with the norm again.
I’ve always been a fan of a rough - long travel. But a little luxury (plane ride) would do me no harm and with a companion? Not bad. Not bad at all.

I want to try surfing and I heard that Baler is known for surfing and numerous historical sites. Im glad ‘ivan about town’ and seair is again giving away free SEAIR tickets! So I’m crossing my fingers!
May 2nd, 2008 at 4:17 am
I’ve never tried surfing before, which is a great shame indeed. I’ve always wanted to, though. I know I’ll fall during my first few (or perhaps many? haha) attempts, but standing up after an embarrassing fall is all part of the fun. Besides, it’s worth the effort once I learn how to stay on the surfboard and just ride on the waves. I bet it’s a great adrenaline rush, being one with the water in that way. Nothing beats a natural high!
As for Baler, I’ve always wanted to visit it for its beaches! I’ve been to several beaches to party, so for once I want to visit a beach just to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Visiting as many beaches in the Philippines as I can is also one of my goals in life. Our country has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and I intend to enjoy seeing them with my own eyes.
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Baler is one destination I’ve longed to visit.
So when an opportunity came I traveled to the capitol town of Aurora in 2007 by my pick-up truck. It took me several hours to traverse the rough and cemented portions of the Pantabangan Aurora highway with a back ache.
Going to Baler and most of Aurora by bus or private vehicle is so tiring, not considering the dangers along the way due to bad roads and, sometimes, landslides.
Thanks to SEAIR, the long winding road to Baler has been made definitely easy.
Since SEAIR is introducing air service to the great and historical town of Baler, many will now have the opportunity to go to Baler for vacation, surfing, adventure and just pure relaxation, for Aurora offers all of these.
The vast Pacific Ocean is a real treat to surfers, especially when the swell is big.
SEAIR, thank you for making our next trip to Baler fast and easy. Congratulations!
May 2nd, 2008 at 2:47 pm
My hubby and I have never been to Baler nor tried surfing for that matter, but knowing how adventurous and kaladkarin we are, given the opportunity (advance thanks to Ironwulf.net and SEAIR)to finally try surfing and visit the wonders of Baler - we will definitely explore and enjoy the one of a kind experience.
This Trip will truly be amazing and wonderful.

I first saw pictures of Baler from my classmate 3 years ago..the photo was they were in the beach, drinking their coffee in the morning while they were sitting on a log. i thought, wow! that could be a nice retreat from the usual citilife…So I decided to research about Baler and I was delighted to find out that aside from the fantastic beaches, Baler is home to surfing! The waves are amazing…you bet am an extreme sports fan…I have always wanted to try surfing because of the thrill and the adrenalin rush that comes with it.
We Filipinos, don’t need to go out of the country and spend much for a great vacation. Baler is a testimony that there is so much to discover especially in our country side. We should be proud of our beaches and more importantly, value it.

Being a cautious person, I never thought I’d be the kind of person who could get into surfing. But all that changed when I visited Baler, Quezon for the first time and got convinced into trying out the waves with some friends (note: I’ll try anything at least once). In just under an hour, I was undeniably hooked! Once I was in the water, all the fears and preconceived notions about surfing melted away. And all I wanted to concentrate on was catching a good wave and getting my feet on the board.
Thank god for my persistent friend, because now I can’t imagine how much less I wouldve enjoyed our trip without learning how to surf! But I swore to myself I definitely have to go back because theres still so much to learn! I loved the people and the open and friendly community. Everyone has an interesting surfing story to share and eager to teach newbies like me. Im definitely going back.

See you again soon Baler!
May 2nd, 2008 at 6:14 pm
i love the sun..sea..sand and surf..oops not to mention the sunburn!
Surfing really gives you natural high! its such an overwhelming experience knowing that there are bigger things surrounding you and you’re making yourself a part of it! i hope i’d win this thing and fly to Baler and feel the waves there!
May 2nd, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Surfing means you and the sea and the board are one, but in Baler, you have the added bonus of checking out the trails, the hills, the town and its history.
May 2nd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
For sure, Baler is now if not one of the future tourist spot in the country. I am very happy that we have great surfers. I first tried it during my highschool days but never succeeded. If time permits I wanted to learn even the basics. I always told my officemates that Baler is a nice place to visit but also advised them to prepare for the long road trip. Now that SEAIR is back in operation, I am excited to spend a vacation in Baler…

I’ve always wanted to try surfing just because I’m such a water baby. But I never expected to be addicted to it. I want to surf not because of bragging rights or whatever, but because I love the ocean and the environment and I think surfing is a very natural sport with only the board and myself and the waves. I want to promote surfing so people can enjoy the beauty of our world and hopefully move towards conserving it. I think Baler, in Aurora Quezon is a good surfing area to learn this skill and also because it’s such a beautiful place to get inspired. Surfing isn’t just about the sport or the lifestyle, it’s about going back to your roots: that we are all a part of this world.

I have surfed La union, Camarines Norte, Zambales and almost all surfers i have talked to was insisting for me to surf Baler too. Most of the people i know are recommending the place not only to surf but also to discover other wonders that the place has to offer. Good thing Seair now flies to Baler i couldnt imagine myself hiking Sierra Madre just to get there. Baler this summer!
