Batanes has been only a dream destination to me. Viewing the place in coffee table books and features in newspapers and magazines, made me drool of experiencing the cool weather, wonderful people, the mountain and the sea — all in one place. May i also mention the simple yet very extraordinary structures. It was quite difficult for me to admit that Batanes is here in my own country… it’s just that Ido not have the means. Sad but true.

I’ve watched a documetary film before in GMA7 where they’ve featured the island of Batanes.

Since then, I planned on visiting Batanes someday, for my honeymoon. ;)

I dunno, but I fell inlove with the simplicity and serenity of the place.

They have also featured this small HONEST store, where you can buy anything inside but no cashier person to pay to. All you have to do is put a certain amount in a can somewhere inside the store.

I was awed by the trust the owner has to the people around her, and the way you act inside will only show how true you are to yourself and to anyone around you.

It’s a good test that I think everyone should try: Your conscience vs Yourself. It’s a good thing to try.

I so love Batanes. I know one day I will be able to visit the island.

It makes me think of one of my favorite movies, “The Sound of Music” set in local flavor. Makes me just want to lie down in one of those hills and look at the clouds, or see the whole island on a bicycle with a friend.

I love Batanes because it makes me proud to be a Filipino. After I had my 5 days vacation in Palawan recently, I fell in love with Pinas even more and told myself there’s got to be more beauty elsewhere in this country plus it really made me miss the country even before I migrate to Canada. Flying to Batanes for free would such a sweet treat!

I’d love to got to batanes but i don’t have the money. I want to go somewhere away from the city to enjoy some breeze of fresh air. An experience a city-goer can’t experience in the city. The simple living and the hospitality of the people are one of BAtanes’ assets. The climate and the rich culture are at its best making it a must-visit place in the philippines :)

Indeed, it is one of the best places in the world that we, Filipinos can be truly proud of. It really makes the Philippines, the pearl of the orient. I’ve never been into the place but the pictures made me fell in love with it. I even watched the movie, Batanes. How I wish I could see, touch, and feel the atmosphere of Batanes. How I wish I could fly with the wind and bring me to Batanes.
It would really be a great graduation gift for me to see Batanes and capture its beauty with the lens of my camera!

Forget the typhoons! :) I’ve been wanting to go to Batanes since it’s really like a different place that is put within our country. Nick tan is also right about Batanes since it is really considered as a photographer’s haven. What makes me love this place more is that SEAIR now offers flights to Batanes. I’ve only known about Batanes through pictures and articles and I already love the place and it is counted as my dream destinations here in the country.

Batanes is one of the few “preserved” places here in the Philippines. It would be great if I would have a chance to go there. I’ve seen a lot of tv programs that featured Batanes, and what can i say, i guess it’s the literally the “heaven here on earth”.

  35. Stevenson Que Says:

Wow! This is such a great question! Why i would love to go to Batanes! Well, i have a gazillion reasons! First of all, I love geography! And of course, I love to travel! Have been to different places in the Philippines like Ilocos, Bicol and Batangas but my dream place? Never been there! It’s not Boracay, its BATANES! Because even in pictures, I experience the bliss and granduer of the place! What more by being exactly there! Oh My! Right now, honestly, I’m imagining myself being the winner and being there. Oh My! How I love the feeling just thinking about the lighthouse! The blue waters! Tha green grassy hillsides! Please Please! If ever you’ll give the prize to me, I will be truly grateful to you! Please. I want batanes BADLY!!!! God Bless seair for giving such opportunities and chances like these to every Filipino that wishes to step-foot on their dream places!

  37. JM Tuazon Says:

Batanes is a very secluded island, and I just absolutely LOVE seclusion. It’s like a whole country in itself, and I heard one can even receive radio signals from Taiwan from there! The green pastures of Batanes and the crashing waves by its high cliffs evoke a different kind of melancholy within me… I believe one trip to Batanes would be a life-changing experience for me, like a child getting hold of his ultimate dream toy. Aaahhh, I’d love to go to Batanes.

  38. 20
  39. Elias F Fernandez jr. Says:

Batanes is one place one has to see. Viewed from the map, it is at the farthest point of the country from the north. It is certain that the province is a pride of the Filipinos as it a heritage site and full of beautiful sceneries. As featured in some documentaries, the houses are designed to withstand strong winds and typhoons as it serves as entrance and exit points of storms. Foreign and domestic tourists should not miss sseing the place.

  41. Ivan Linor Bueno Says:

Have you ever had this feeling of wanting to go some place where time may seem to stop and the only thing that matters is you and the beautiful scenery that takes your breath away? Well, Batanes has that same charisma which appeals to my inner self. Thinking about the serene and simple way of life set in an unadulterated beauty is enough to lure anyone who is seeking refuge from the hassles of fast-paced city living. 1. Batanes is a place of ENCHANTING beauty. (making you wanna go back there again and again. I’m sure everybody would agree here)
    2. Why go to new Zealand or Scotland when you can see that in Batanes? It’s the best of both worlds: from the panoramic views, rock formations, unspoiled beaches, wonderful architecture of the churches and lighthouse etc… name it, they have it!
    3. This is THE dream destination for a adventurer/photographer wannabe like me who wants to know more about her Filipino roots. :)

A haven of the great architectures considering the location of being the typhoon path, . .I love the pictures of the stone houses and the beautiful roof made of indigenous materials. . .
It seems like the locals really did thought ingeniously on how to secure themselves from the impending winds and rains. . . making them a very secured person that one can feel safe with. . .
Actually, never been there. . . but would be heaven to have a trip to Baltanes. . .

  76. 39
  77. Abigail Yao Says:

I’ve dreamed of going to Batanes for nearly 15 years, since I heard Koro Ivatan perform live at what was then CRC. I used to look at the photograph of the children (who were my age) in their Christmas album, thinking how different their environment was to mine. Until now, whenever I try to imagine Batanes, I hear the voices of the choir juxtaposed over images of the stone houses and idyllic landscapes I see on television. Perhaps in real life, it’s even more magical than that. And there’s only one way to find out.

  78. 40
  79. Marcos P. Caratao Jr. Says:

I love Batanes because it is unique from all places in the Philippines. Not only does it have a distinct geograhic features, but it’s rich heritage, traditions, and customs is set apart from the rest. 90. 46
  91. James Nicolay Says:

For many years, Batanes has not been as popular as it should have been. Many people would gladly go to other places like Boracay or Bohol simply because of word of mouth–they were told by the people who have gone there that those places are our very own local versions of paradise. But as for Batanes, it has only been popularized by hearsay or the very few documented videos about it that we saw through the years.

But things have changed. SeaAir has made it possible for the rest of us to see Batanes. As of the moment, three of my friends have been making me envious as they send their MMS pictures of Batanes. Worse, they have started posting pictures that they have gotten so far through their photo albums in their websites. (Side note: there’s Internet and cellphone reception in Batanes! Yey!) These guys are really good photographers, and they have captured amazing photos of the stunning beauty of Batanes–a romantic light tower, hills that make everyone go ala Julie Andrews and sing how alive they are, the vintage oldest house made of corals, and some very warm and candid photos of Ivatan natives. Who can resist such beauty?

The beauty of Batanes beckons. But I can’t. I know that SeaAir has now made it possible, but I have to wait for now. I know I don’t make enough money and it will take me roughly two years or so to save and get there. But by hook or by crook, I am going there. I will get there.

I have not been to Batanes but I’d really love to go there for free. It’s pretty expensive to pay for the trip yourself. I plan to save for it but expenses for basic needs always comes first. 98. 50
  99. Billie Jean Lee Says:

Batanes is my ultimate dream travel destination. Its is one of the travel destinations our country should be really proud of. Too bad not all Filipinos can go there because of the expenses. I only get to see it in the news, in tv and in other people’s blogs. And my dream is to include the experience in my own blog.

I didn’t show any interest at first but when I saw my another classmate’s shots of Batanes when she went there this summer, Wah! It’s wow! I said to myself that I should visit Batanes soon! The place looks so clean, green, calm and inviting. I really want to visit Batanes soon.

  108. 55
  109. Cherry T. Vitalicio Says:

I became aware that there is still hope for us Filipinos when I visited Batanes. It’s one of those places left in the country where the people are genuinely warm and friendly (and should I say honest?) Their eyes beam with pride as they go about their rather routinely chores. Who wouldn’t be proud? Ivatans try their very best to make their beloved province not only clean but also safe. For instance a thief in a certain barangay can no longer live in the area because no one will allow him to work there anymore. Hence he is forced to relocate. But even then his chances are quite slim since people who visit other barangays will eventually learn about his crime. Therefore BAtanes is almost a crime-free community.

Of course, aside from the wonderful folks-from the children to the elders- of Batanes, the province is real wonder to behold. Every tourist becomes an instant professional photographer with the help of its majestic terrains. Click like crazy in every direction and you’ll be surprised how your camera was able to magically produce those picture perfect sceneries.

So do I love BAtanes? Certainly! I’d been in love with it from the moment I saw it on a magazine. So when I had the chance to visit, I fell in love with it even more. I’d even marry an Ivatan just to prove it. (hihi!)

    Again, why love BAtanes?

    Again, who wouldn’t?

  110. 56
  111. Kathleen Pedro Says:

My passion is to see the beauty of our own country if not the world and Batanes is definitely on top of my list but it’s not easy saving up for trips like this. Life is short so I’m trying my luck here. =)

  112. 57
  113. Franz Says:

Batanes is a world by itself - end of the world to be exact. Picturesque cliffs, eye-catching stone houses and grassy hills littered with cows. The islands become enchanting during rainy weather. In short, you can’t forget the place. It’s like that mountain range in Sabtang Island that look like a lovely face of a sleeping woman.

  114. 58
  115. Maan Leyson Says:

My work takes me to different parts of the country. Batanes remains special since it is still pristine and untouched by the trappings of urbanity. The place makes one feel to be one with nature and to be one with the universe within. To me, Batanes is not only a destination but a journey to my very own self.

Who would not like a peaceful co-existence with friendly local citizens in this crime-free province, eh?

  122. 62

We dreamed of going to Batanes for our honeymoon, but budget was tight. Now, it’s one of our dream vacation-destinations! Hopefully, we’ll be able to save enough for it. I have even used it as a password in my computer at work :) Talk about obssessed…

  132. 67
  133. Roselle B. dela Fuente Says:

I love traveling and have been to most of our country’s popular destinations. Even until now, I can still say that each journey is an exhilarating experience as each place has a facet or two that makes it unique from the rest of the beaches, mountains, valleys or cities we have been to.

Well, Batanes could be a very nice place to go to on my next vacation. Aside from the long stretches of sandy beaches, rocky shorelines, nice semi-tropical climate, UNESCO World heritage sites and friendly people that this province have been known for, I am more curious about Batanes’ claim to zero-crime rate! Admit it, not very many places in this world asserts that much peace, order and safety in their locality. Who wouldn’t want to indulge in the pristine nature that Batanes offers while being assured that you would have a 100 percent worry-free vacation? That’s one hell of a vacation, I am sure, anyone would line up for…

Now, doesn’t that make you wanna find out for yourself? Me? Just count me in!

  141. Maria Paola Erika P. Garnace Says:

I’ve been dreaming of going to Batanes for a looong time! I’ve never gone to a lot of places here in the Philippines due to budget constraints but if I’ll be able to save enough (or perhaps win in a contest), visiting Batanes is definitely at the top of my itinerary. I would love to go there with my family, especially my mom who badly needs to go to a place where she can relax and forget her worries. The lush greens, scenic landscapes, fresh air, and the friendly and honest people will surely give us that well-deserved break from the chaos in the city. =)

  145. Carlo Lamason Says:

I have been to a couple of small provinces like Camiguin, Siquijor, Guimaras and Biliran just to name a few and I concluded that as a province gets smaller the more beautiful it becomes and people also gets warmer towards travellers which they treat as guests. That is why I would really love to go Batanes as I want to experience its beauty and most of all the hospitality that I expect from the smallest province in our country.

  146. 74
  147. Eunice Monsod Says:

It’s not merely a question of why I want to go to Batanes, it’s not a want, it’s a need.
Batanes is a must-see place, as a law student, I think I need to be able to take a break.
It’s about time that i get to see things.
I don’t get to travel, I don’t have the luxury to travel, but Batanes is a good place to start the adventure.

Plus the landscape is awesome. I’d like to bring my wife there and explore the place using our mountain bikes. A great place to enjoy the weekend together.

Batanes is a dream for me. Something too special that I dare not arrange a trip there randomly. I want it to be special, unique, an unforgettable experience. Wining a trip there for FREE would be a good start. But honestly, going to Batanes is in one of my New Year’s Resolutions since last year. I guess that’s one of the downside of saving-up. No enough moolah to go around. No enough money to provide for my “wants.” I try to make it a point to glance at my goals every one in a while. Just to remind me. People tend to forget, at least I do. I guess that’s what dreams are made for. To remind us once in a while. As my friend Victor Fiorelli said: “Look for the opportunities in the difficulties, not the difficulties in the opportunities.”

It has been one of my dreams to discover, experience and promote the beauty of the Philippines before I go and see the beauty of other places/countries. My officemates and I have been talking about going to Batanes if only we have the resources and the time. I want to be credible whenever I talk about our beloved country. This will be a great opportunity to learn, to work and to have some fun as well! Happy trip everyone! :)

Discussing the different provinces of the 17 regions of our country is a fave topic of mine, since exploring our country locally made me love it even more. It would be a blessing if i can teach it once more this year the unspolied, natural beauty and culture of Batanes armed with a first-hand account to my students.

  317. Villegas, Prince Miko H Says:

i am a pure ivatan,, but since the day i graduated in highschool, my mom sent me off to manila to continue up my studies, it’s been three years since i’ve went to my hometown, my mom lives there alone, all my brothers went to abroad which means i am the only one taking care of myself here in manila. i miss my mom so much, and so is batanes, i am saying not because of the promo(free tickets to batanes or sort of) but because it is the truth, to live, and being in batanes is the real prize, the free ticket is just a bonus. i’ts my dream to go back at our hometown, but i think it will be just a dream, i have a family composed of indigent people, who cannot afford to buy tickets related to monetary problems. if there is just one wish i could be granted right at this moment, that is to be with my mother and to my hometown batanes…..

Batanes is one of the few unspoilt places in the Philippines with natural beauty that needs to be preserved and enjoyed, unique culture that’s still intact to be experienced and friendly locals to interact with.

There are a number of reasons why I would love to go to Batanes. But topping my list is the simplest of all: Batanes is a traveler’s paradise. It is a place where people, culture, and nature are in harmony. Yes, I would indeed love to go to Batanes!

  329. Ronniel Nito Says:

I’ve always wanted to stand at the edge of the world, on a mossy crag by the shore, feeling the breath of God in the sea breeze, while taking in the visage of the raging ocean’s expanse, to see the horizon wider than ever before…

and yet, i know this could not be, since our forefathers centuries ago came to realize that the earth was actually round, not the world that they imagined, resting on the back of tortoise where the ocean cascades down into infinite oblivion…i can never stand at the edge of the world…

but at least i could try, if fate decides to give me a chance, there in the fabled isles of Batanes, far from the bustle of this topsy-turvy world, i could be at peace with myself and my God, as i pretend to stand at the edge of the world

  343. Nonoy Ativo Says:

Batanes is both cursed and blessed by its location. Cursed because very few people will ever get to see it, blessed because it will probably be the last place in the Philippines that will be pristine and virgin long after technology and progress is finished with the rest of the archipelago. It is that idea of being lost within a natural wonder, ravaged by storms yet undamaged and unruffled, that beckons me.

  344. 173
  345. patrick andrew e. gozon Says:

i love batanes because of its unique landscape which is home to some interesting species of plants. some of the native plant life have been interwoven with the peoples culture bringing regional identity and pride. sadly some of these cultures involving these plants are continuously in danger of being lost. like the voyavoy palm which is woven into the traditional batanes headgear, vakul. the making of the vakul is slowly becoming a purely tourist attraction (as the vakul is not anymore used by the natives), thus the existence of the voyavoy palm is threatened as its cultural purposes is diminished.

there are lots more of plants like podocarpus, drypetes, etc. i would love to go to batanes to have the chance to document these plant cultures for my tropical landscape thesis.
