SEAIR flies to Borongan, Eastern Samar

They call Borongan, Eastern Samar the City of the Golden Sunrise. And SEAIR will be flying to the capital city of Eastern Samar starting September 1!

One place to visit is nearby Divinubo Island. Aside from it’s white sand beach, I was told that behind the island (the side facing the Pacific), there are caves as well as a light house. What is peculiar about the island is that during low tide, you can walk to it since a land bridge of coral rocks emerges.

Borongan has a lot of potential as an eco-tourism destination. It’s a good place to invest for surf camps. In fact, locals were surfing when I arrived. There are several waterfalls in the city inlcuding Tres Marias, Masakpasak, Hinahanginan, Binabalarawan, Cansoriyaw, Mono, Pangi, Tagpuyucan, Bihid, Kaputian and Tumaligis Falls. There are several caves to explore too. You can also go white-water rafting (that’s if you have your own raft since no one has set-up there yet). And I was told the coral reefs are also worth the dive.

I got to enjoy some of the night scenes of Borongan such as watching crabs crossing the street or fireflies lighting up a nearby tree. Also check out the historical core of the city where you can find the monument and ancestral home of the local revolutionary hero Major Eugenio S. Daza, as well as the Borongan Cathedral and the Santiago Monument in front of it.

From Borongan, you could also visit the town of Guiuan, which is at the southern tip of Samar Island, a place known as a haven for surfing.

The flights from Manila to Borongan v.v. will be every Mondays and Fridays. The fares go as low as low as P3,500 one-way all inclusive from Manila - Borongan and vice versa. For reservations, call SEAIR Reservations at (02) 8490100 or SEAIR Borongan at (0917) 81SAMAR - (0917) 8172627. (by Ivan Henares)

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I AM VERY HAPPY TO LEARN THAT WE ARE GETTING AN AIRLINE SERVICE DIRECT TO BORONGAN NOW! I HAVE LIVED IN THIS WONDERFUL TOWN ? CITY FOR THE LAST 7 YEARS. MY WIFE IS FROM HERE AND WE ARE DOING MISSION WORK AMONG THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE. BACK IN 1998 I MET WITH A CAR ACCIDENT IN FLORIDA AND IT DID A PERMANENT DAMAGE TO MY BACK. BACK IN APRIL 2002 MY WIFE AND I RODE A PHILTRANCO BUS FROM BORONGAN TO MANILA. AFTER THAT TRIP MY BACK HURT FOR MONTHS! I TOLD MY WIFE, “BY THE GRACE OF GOD WE WILL NEVER RIDE A BUS AGAIN THAT FAR! (IT TOOK 36HOURS!- THE BUS BROKE SEVERAL TIMES ON THE WAY) NOW, THANKS TO THE BEGINNING OF AIR TRAFFIC HERE IN OUR CITY, WE CAN BE IN MANILA IN LESS THAN 2 HOURS, THAT IS FANTASTIC!!! THANK THE LORD FOR MAKING LIFE A LITTLE EASIER FOR ONE OF HIS SERVANTS! I ALSO WANT TO THANK “THE POWERS THAT BE” PRESIDENT ARROYO, GOVERNOR EVARDONE, MAYOR ANACTA, AND EVEN MR. BOY ABUNDA FOR THEIR HELP IN GETTING THIS THING STARTED! I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT PUNTA MARIA AND THE CEMEMNT RUNWAY THERE FOR SEVERAL YEARS ALREADY AND WISHING AND HOPEING THAT ONE DAY IT WOULD BE PUT TO USE. THANK GOD THAT HAS COME TO PASS NOW! MAY GOD BLESS THE BORONGANONS!

no plans to fly to guiuan? i think guiuan is better than borongan…it is because guiuan possesses more natural resources and historical value, not to mention the hospitality and simplicity of the people. i can only see two reasons why guiuan is left behind AGAIN…less recognition from the provincial government because of political differences and the feeling of DOMINANANCE of the people from other places of this province…they don’t want to be the last…they always want to be the first and popular…President Arroyo included in her SONA for the past two years the rehabilitation of the GUiuan airport and i think i did not hear in those SONAs the name borongan…hmmmm…it is just a vivid evidence of their hunger to be not left behind…they want always to be the first among the others…what do you prefer a city by name? or a city by its true identity? thanks

  65. vince Says:

how the hell did these people go to abroad when their english grammar and diction is terrible? Oh my, what a shame for estehanon naman. well, congratulations to the “city” government of borongan, a new lease of life not just for the borongan populace but for the entire east coast. for those concerned, a320s/a319s cant land just as yet in the airport, runway is way too short, they could overshoot it, not a good idea for a developing city. so small aircrafts like cessnas, dorniers or ATR-72s may just be the best shot for now. i adhere with one of the ‘commentators’ here, why not guiuan airport? may be because guiuan is not yet dubbed as ‘city’. hindi ba marunong makipagkalakalan ang mga nanunungkulan sa guiuan to SeAir?. It may be a consideration to dwell into… and how about the fare of SeAir to and from Borongan? it may just be the same as philippine airlines but the fare is fair enough.. hail to the SeAir, our hopes fly with you…. More power

  66. 34
  67. manny Says:

Its another milestone for my hometown or I may say homecity, definately this will boost the economic condition of the province. So I am appealing to Estehanon please do your part patronize SEAIR commercial flight to Borongan airport instead of Tacloban.

Good to have a commercial fligth Manila to Borongan and vice versa, a geographical location facing Pacific Ocean hoping business to boom with tourist coming in thus business follows. On my trip, manila to borongan and vice-versa, what is the limit of my load aside from handcarry? Can i send through sea air a cargo (ex. PC and other personal effects) or padala? what is the load limit for cargo and the fee? Whom can I inquire with sea air regarding this matter?

    Thank you very much.

  72. 37
  73. manila Says:

to interested and vince, the reason why Borongan City got the first commercial flight in E. Samar is because of the market and not because of politics, greed or whatsoever. If you are both from E. Samar you would probably know what I mean. Based on a study conducted by SEAIR and Philippine Airlines (PAL), Borongan is a more viable market and that’s the reason why PAL Express is also set to fly the Manila-Borongan route within this year. Thank you!

  85. vince Says:

    to pedro,
well, ang mga amerikanong hindi alam ang pinagkaiba ng diameter sa circumference ay hindi na umaalis pa sa kanilang bansa para magtrabaho sa ibang bansa. kaya may delikadesa na sila, mas pinili nilang manatili sa estados unidos. they may not know the difference between diameter and circumference but surely, they know the distinctions. kung apektado ka man ay pasensya ka nalang. reality bites. it already bit you i guess. abroad ang sinabi ko, my term does not necessarily confine itself to your ‘amerika’. iginagalang ko din ang mga taga ES na nagsisikap na makapag english. pero hindi na kailangan mag abroad pa para pagsikapan ito.

    to manila,
market huh, let us see what your ‘market’ can do to fully patronize the SeAir after the September 8 festivity. well, the operation of SeAir to and from borongan-manila cannot be made possible without the humble touch of politics. It obviously cannot be brushed aside. Hay, goodluck to guiuan airport. may there be conducted another wave of study.. Feasibility-wise, PAL may observe number of passengers going o gaga with airline travel with SeAir, and MOVE FORWARD FROM THERE.

  86. 44
  87. traveler Says:

    hi!
based from my experience in some airline companies in which i am one of their passenger, i preferred to have the lowest fare possible for my trip, does SEAIR has the lowest airfare like the PHILIPPINE AIRLINES?

    thanks very much

  88. 45
  89. ivan Says:

“SEAIR said yes to the invitation to fly to Borongan because SEAIR sees the potential of the area for commerce and tourism. SEAIR now flies to Borongan every Mondays and Fridays. We use the Dornier 328 planes which can take passengers very comfortably from Manila to Borongan and v.v. in just 1 hour and 10 minutes.

“We are happy to be part of history in Eastern Samar by being the first commerical airline to fly to the province. While before it takes almost a day to travel from Manila to Borongan, now it takes a little more than an hour. Now, Borongan is as accessible to Manila as the biggest cities in the Philippines. This would spur tourism and economic growth in the area. We are happy to be a partner of the Eastern Samar government in serving the people.”

. ” - Patrick Tan, SEAIR VP Commercial

  90. 46
  91. Upayi Says:

    Hi Ivan,

Its nice to hear from you that SEAIR has seen lots of potential for tourism and commerce of manila-borongan flight. I seen that too. Vince might be far off from the ground not seeing that potential.

As I mentioned above, Ivan, can you please review and check the cargo rates for manila-borongan flight. The cargo rate is similar to that of the Manila-Basco cargo rate. Comparing the distance of manila-borongan and manila-basco, the latter is twice farther. Seair rate should be in-between with the PAL Express cargo rates for Manila-Calbayog and Manila-Surigao.

Many thanks and Maupay han Seair!

  92. 47
  93. interested Says:

…there were people who replied to my comment..thanks for that! it only goes to show that there are some who are concerned. My only concern is this…why hinder the development of guiuan? i think other airline companies will now think twice to make routes going to guiuan because of the existence of the “airport” in Borongan “city”. a number of people say that it is only “right” that Borongan has an airport because of the mere fact that it is a CITY and the CAPITAL of Eastern Samar. how about imagining that the capitol was not built in Borongan? do you think it will be that easy for Borongan to prosper?

…i think the Guiuan airport is much larger and wider compared to the Borongan airport. it is also nearer to the downtown compared to Borongan since their airport is located at point mary and you still have to travel the “good” roads of Eastern Samar just to reach downtown Borongan. the reason why we ride on airplanes is because of the comfort we look for. now, which of the two gives more comfort?

… if this will always the case-leaving other towns behind-Eastern Samar will not progress. Remember Borongan is not the only town, ah, i mean city comprising the said province. there are 22 more left behind. thank you and have a nice day!

  94. 48
  95. ivan Says:

We appreciate your comments. If you want flights in your own localities, you should pressure your local officials to work for flights instead of putting others down. There are far smaller airports than Borongan which also have flights. It’s not a question of which airport is better. Let’s stop crab mentality here. If we had more flights linking our country together, wouldn’t that be better?

Dornier is a German aircraft manufacturer. A similar model is used by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority which sounds like a good enough endorsement for me.”

I know that Seair is still at test stage, but if you can address this matter I will be able to have the cargo carried thru Seair Manila-Borongan flight instead of Manila-Tacloban (thru PAL or CebuPac). The cargo rate differential is around P 15-20/kg higher than Tacloban rate.

First, I would like to congratulate the local government of Eastern Samar, the City of Borongan, SEAIR and those who helped the first landing of a commercial plane in the region made possible.

I was in Borongan during the inaugural flight. I’ve witnessed how happy and excited the Boronganons are. I shared the joy not only because I am a frequent air traveler but because I am a native of Eastern Samar.

As a freelance writer, I’ve been visiting the website of SEAIR hoping to read passengers review for my article. For less than a month now, few of them shared their experiences on Flight DG0396 at iyong iba naman ay mga negative remarks kesyo politics daw ang dahilan kaya nagkaroon ng flight to Borongan. Kung gayun, bakit hindi mamulitika ang pamunuan ng Guiuan kung gusto nila magkaroon ng flight?

Meron pang nag post dito na pati “grammar and diction” ginawang issue and I quote: “how the hell did these people go to abroad when their english grammar and diction is terrible?”

Anyway, SE aircraft accommodates 32 passengers only and operates MNL-BPR-MNL twice a week. Considering of huge travelers to this region, this will explain why the said sector is always fully booked.

If BPR-MNL sector is picking up, SE should raise frequency of their flight as MNL-BPR sector will always have passengers.

Today, though air fare is little bit higher than land trip, it is but wise to travel by air considering of comfort and long-hour journey from Manila to Eastern Samar.

I checked with the major travel agencies in Saudi Arabia but they can’t book the domestic flight through SEAIR.

    Cheers,

Hi..I never tried booking to sea air because of many reasons, btw, i did not post this for people to know me, anyhow, im just wondering if sea air also give discounts/promos like cebu pacific and PAL does.?? The fare to borongan is quite not reasonable ejeje (pax!!) yet it would be better if you can also give us a lower rates, im sorry but im just suggesting since people like us used to have just 1k or below fares for manila to tacloban plus the trasportation cost from tacloban to borongan of an estimates of PHP 300.00 so if you’ll just add it up it will just be 1k plus, the pagod..ejeje as one of the boronganons, i hope if you can do moves on how you can make it more affordable for people like me who want to expirience riding your commercial plane, yes most people there are quite RICH, but you also need to consider that there are more people living at borongan who are in the lower middle class, middle class ETC., who loved discounts, lower fares, etc. and im one of those ..ejeje and i guess there are more people who are saving money for many reasions at all, so if you could just re adjust your fare, i believe all slots will always be sold/fully booked! in behalf of those people who demand a lower rates for Manila to Borongan or vice versa hope the management can do an immediate actions on this matter.. Thank you in advance;o) and Godbless you;o)

P.s. I love what you’ve wrote about my native land thank you Mr. Ivan Henares, and i also pray that someday borongan will be one of those places that most people would want to visit, borongan and discover things that can help my home town more progressive..!!!gogogo!! borongan!! fight!fight!fight!ejeje;o)
you can send me comments/feedbacks-this is for the person who can initially viewed my eaddress .thanks;o)

I had read all the comments from top to bottom, a lot were constructive comments and very few do their stuff and share their own negative per se destructive views. Though all those comments were the token of democratic ways of expressing our own opinion, but mind you guys, if we are both in the same province (eastern samar), why we should push down each other, remember we are all in the same boat because we have only one eastern samar, the glory of one town must be the glory of the whole province. Lets unite and help one another. Kaya nating umangat at tulungang hilahin pataas ang nasa baba. God bless eastern samar.

    Hello to everyone!

Mostly Eastern Samarenos wanted to fly with SEAIR but the problem is the one way flight is very EXPENSIVE. Immagine 4,500.00 pesos is very high for a passenger from Manila to Borongan. Where as if you will take a flight from Manila to Tacloban you can still save, which is only 1,800.00 pesos.
    Seair staff’s what’s the matter?
We the Samarenos wanted to go to our hometown with Seair but we couldnt afford. If you can lower it even to 2,500.00 pesos I think you can attract more pasengers going to Eastern Samar.
Specialy that Christmas is coming as will with the NEW YEAR.

    IS THIS POSSIBLE???

  149. ivan Says:

You cannot compare flights to Tacloban with SEAIR’s Borongan flights because of the differences in planes used. For Borongan, it’s a 32-seater Dornier. So you’d expect costs to be higher. SEAIR is the premiere airline of the country and focuses on convenience and comfort more than anything else.

I am really surprised when i heard about the flights from manila to borongan and v.v.

I am proud to be waray like anybody should be who originated from Borongan.
Cheers to all who speaks waray-waray!!!and yes, mabuhay SEAIR.
